Hepatitis B: Three doses of hepatitis B vaccine and positive antibody titer (blood work). The hepatitis B vaccine is a three-dose series, which takes six months to complete. For students who have not already started the series, documentation for two doses of the vaccine must be submitted by your program immunization deadline.

Rabies: The standard vaccination protocol is two doses (Day 1 and Day 7), followed by a titer on the one-year anniversary. If the titer is positive, no further vaccine or titers will be required.
Students may access or request verification of submitted immunization documentation from the SAHA Office through their SIS portal, via email or telephone. The SAHA Office provides an Immunization Record that lists each vaccine with date received and antibody titer dates with results. The Immunization Record is accepted at most clinics and hospitals.

Diphtheria and Pertussis (booster every 10 years) are highly recommended immunizations for HCPs. If one or more of the listed immunizations are contraindicated, documentation must be submitted clearly identifying the reason(s). Below is the list of required vaccinations. Please provide proof of immunity to each of the infections listed below by submitting either positive titers, proof of vacations, or a negative test. It is important that all vaccinations and health records are up to date to ensure no delays in scheduling your experiential rotations. These guidelines are set in place to ensure your safety and the safety of those you will encounter during your experiential education. Please provide proof of vaccination or a positive titer and a negative skin test or chest x-ray for each of the items below.
Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, the University has moved some of the on-ground courses into a distance education modality. However, as soon as the COVID-19 circumstances change, students will be expected to return on campus to complete their program onsite in the regular learning modality as approved by WSCUC and outlined in the university catalog.
If you have had vaccines and/or diseases in the past, we accept blood titers showing immunity. You may schedule an appointment with an SHS nurse to request a lab test for titers by calling nurse consult at (309)-438-7676. The cost of the blood test(s) will be billed to your student account. Please check with your primary insurance about vaccine coverage and possible reimbursement information before scheduling an appointment. Student Health Services does not bill to insurance agencies; you may pick up an invoice at the SHS Business Office which you may submit to insurance.
In order to register for classes Health Services must have proof of two doses of Varicella (chicken pox) and two doses of Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR). If you're under the age of 18, you must complete the additional form found in the student portal. Students living on campus must have proof of Meningitis strains A, C, Y & W135 (either Menactra or Menveo).
Yes. It is important that we are 100% certain you developed a protective level of antibodies to the disease. If your titer is low, depending on the level, you will need one or two varicella vaccinations.
You should get a booster dose vaccine, then re-titer 30-60 days later. If a protective antibody response is achieved, you are considered complete. If not, we would require completing dose #5 and #6 followed by a final titer 4 weeks after last dose vaccine.
If you have documentation of all three doses vaccine, then you should have a Hepatitis B surface antibody titer drawn first. If the QUANTITATIVE Hepatitis B Surface Antibody is positive, send us the report.
State of Connecticut General Statutes/ Section 10a-155 regulations requires all matriculated students born after December 31, 1956, to provide proof of adequate immunization against measles (rubeola),rubella, mumps and varicella (chicken pox) before permitting such students to enroll.
