Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk. Affected units were sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017 and product eligibility is determined by the product serial number.
First check to see which 15-inch MacBook Pro you have. Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu () in the upper-left corner of your screen. Confirm your model is "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)." If you have that model, enter your computer's serial number below to see if it is eligible for this program.
change system serial number macbook pro
I did not have any warranty and then i showed in an repairing centre outside and they made it correct. The repairing centre replaced some power circuit in motherboard. However now my serial number is changed. Is it normal? What i should do now?
If you used a non-Apple service provider to repair the laptop, then it sounds like they either replaced the whole Logic Board or they mixed up Logic Boards with another computer. If the repair shop was going to replace the Logic Board, they should have warned you about the different serial number. If the shop mixed up Logic Boards, then it doesn't inspire confidence in their procedures. Check "About this Mac" by clicking on the Apple menu. Does it show the exact same model number as before the repair? Is the CPU and memory the same as before the repair? Enter your laptop's original serial number found on the bottom case on this page and compare the information to what is shown on "About this Mac".
If the repair was performed by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, then perhaps they mis-typed the serial number when replacing the Logic Board. If this is the case, then take it back so Apple or the AASP can replace the Logic Board again and enter the correct serial number this time. The Apple tool service providers use to flash the serial number can only be used on a Logic Board with no existing serial number.
I was recently reading some other posts where it was reported that the serial changed when they replaced their hard-drive. Could this be possible? Is it possible that the serial is a combination of hardware serial numbers? Can anyone confirm this? Or is it just a number assigned to a motherboard NVRAM?
When I got my MacBook back, some silly repair-centre person had left a CD in the drive called "SetSysSerSum-3T100". The readme file shows it is a utility that when booted into, allows you to, easily with a GUI, change the serial number of any intel mac!
I'm new to macs (so don't start kickin'), and I am just wondering what would be the consequences of using the program posted. I mean, wouldn't I have to change anything else (such as the airport serial, mac adress, even some other hardware...) or this prog just changes the serial and everything else remains the same. Has anybody tried it? Is it working and how?
Does anyone know if this dmg will still change the serial number on the newest macbook pro's ? The one's with the 2.4 ghz processor? I have a 17 inch model and when I press and hold the D key when booting, it will not boot from the cd. I've tried putting in other bootable cd's and holding ALT/option and that cd shows up (bootable Leopard install disc). I also want to mention that I had an older version Macbook Pro (2.33ghz) and it ran the cd just fine and I was able to change the SN. I'm just kind of wondering if it's a hardware issue, or firmware....and if anyone else has had any luck changing a serial number on the newest macbook pros. Thanks!
The point of this image is to change the serial number of a Mac computer.. If you don't have a mac, there isn't any point in changing it...The serial number is stored in NV ram on mac's.... so this wouldn't apply to you..
Supposedly, once a certified apple technician burns a serial number into your logic board, it is impossible to remove unless you have specialized software that contacts apples servers with a registered signature and encryption key, and waits for apples servers to send authorization to write or remove the serial number from the logic board. Assuming that apples technology is impenetrable, then you would have to assume that someone stole apples special software and one of their keys, and used it on my logic board remotely to deserialize my mlb.
I found a website with some software called BlankBoard Serialzer at -blank-board-serializer?ns=1Could anyone tell me if this sofware is safe to use and if I should use it to re-burn my serial number into my mac?
You have already discovered that some Apple services require a valid serial number. iMessage and various DRM are tied to your serial number and UUID as well as Apple ID. As an aside, loading a valid serial number is a tricky and important step in getting a Hackintosh to run iMessage.
THE SOLUTION:I took my mac to the Apple store, and showed them the missing serial number. The Apple Technician connected my mac to Apples servers and reflashed my logic board with the correct serial number right in front of my eyes all for the price of $0.00 without apple care or a warranty for my mac. So, the Apple Stores do have the proper software, means, and ability to reflash your serial number into your MBL if this issue happens to you.
THINGS TO CHECK BEFORE TAKING IT TO THE APPLE STORE:After I had the Apple store reflash my macbook pro with the original serial number, I encountered a new problem, that may not have occured if I took care of this issue BEFORE REFLASHING THE SERIAL NUMBER AT THE APPLE STORE.
The NEW Probem:Reflashing the Macbook pro with the serial number (possibly) created a permanant issue in icloud. Now, when using the icloud web interface, my iphone, or my mac, i CANNOT REMOVE the Old macbook pro with the "UKNOWN" Serial number. This means, that when trying to reformat my newly flashed mac, and start from scratch, icloud somehow thinks my macbook is permanently logged in and will not de-register "Macbook Pro: Unknown Serial number" from icloud using any means or methodology. I have no idea if this issue existed before reflashing my mac serial number, but i believe it didnt. Therefore I suspect the issue comes from the fact that iCloud is detecting two of the exact same hardware and logic board configurations with different serial numbers.
Go to virtual machine configuration > Hardware > Boot Order > Advanced settings > in Boot flags field paste the flag below alongside with a new serial number next:
the question id like to ask is regarding software. i came across a seller on ebay selling brand new motherboards for apple computers. he states that all boards are brand new, no serial number "burned" and use of Apple serializer software is recommended.
Yes, this is absolutely true. As an Apple Certified Mac Technician, this is needed (Balnk Board Serializer) to be installed AFTER a new logic board is replaced. Boot up on CD, you will need to add the NEW serial number there where it indicates to do so, then follow the instructions, make sure you select "add or confirme" (don't recall exactly what it mentions), then restart. This process will assure that you will not have any issues during the use of your Mac, good luck!
Here is my 2 cents. The system serial number is set on the logic board by a special software disk, which allows the number to be written to the logic board firmware. Apple provides the 'Serializer' CD to Authorized Apple service centers. It will not work if the serial number already exists (even if the serial number is all zeroes), so you can't change an existing serial number.Writing the serial number to the logic board is not possible without that utility CD.
What I am trying to figure out is, what software would require the serial software, to function. I am not a Mac person but I do not think that there is such a big difference that any software would require the system serial number. I would think that the presence or in your case the absence, of a system serial number would be an issue.
Techicnaly, there are other ways to add/change the motherboard's serial number by using special hardware, but just like the serialising CD, it is beyond the reach of end-users. Mac OS X shouldn't have a problem with a computer with no serial number.
About 4 years ago i was Apple authorized, and every logic board we replaced needed to be serialized. The software to do this is proprietary. It is contained in the Dealer software called GSX. After the repair has been completed, the repaired computer is connected to the dealer network via an Ethernet cable, GSX is loaded, and the serial number is entered. Then the GSX serializer writes the serial number to the board. You only get one chance to do this right. If you make a mistake, the board must be returned to Apple because there is no function to erase an incorrect serial number. Therefore if you purchase a used logic board, it will most likely already have a serial number on it, and there is no way to change it, unless your Apple. 2ff7e9595c
